Tēnā koutou, tēnā koutou, tēnā rā koutou katoa!

We are a school with a long and proud tradition of serving the communities of Lynfield, Mount Roskill and Blockhouse Bay. With a roll of 550 students, we draw from a diverse community who are incredibly supportive of their child's learning and our high expectations of learning and behaviour.

Our classes are inclusive, caring and welcoming for every student. This special character and our excellent grounds and facilities help our students develop a real sense of pride and belonging in our school.

Our school values of whanaungatanga (positive relationships), manaakitanga (caring, kindness), rangatiratanga (independence, leadership) and mōhiotanga (knowledge and understanding), underpin our learning philosophy. We have high quality classroom teaching alongside specialist teaching in te reo Māori, Science, Visual Art and Music.

To find out more about our school, I welcome you to explore our website or meet with us in person so we can show you around our school and answer any questions that you may have about your child’s education.

Ngā mihi,

Marshall Laing Primary School Board

Every state and state-integrated school in New Zealand has a board that governs it. The Board has overall responsibility and accountability for the school. The Board is accountable for student progress and achievement and has a duty to show to its parents, community, and the government that students are being well prepared for life beyond school.

The Board’s role is to oversee the governance of the school and to ensure that everything that needs to be done gets done – legally, ethically and as well as possible in the best interests of its students. The Board is the employer of all staff, including the principal, and sets the overall strategic direction for the school. The principal is the Board’s ‘chief executive’ and manages the day-to-day operations of the school in line with the board’s direction and policies.

The Board provides the strategic direction for the school through the Strategic Plan, and also sets policy, provides a framework in which the Principal manages the school, complies with Ministry of Education (MOE) legal requirements, employs the staff, is responsible for the health and safety of the site, property, finances and self-review.

Our Parent Teacher Association (PTA)

The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is an integral part of the Marshall Laing community. The PTA is responsible for fundraising and social activities within the school community. We co-operate with and support the Board of Trustees and teachers to ensure the best possible outcomes.

We would love it if you could get involved with the PTA either on the committee or as a helper. It’s a great opportunity to get to know some of the other parents, help your children and have some fun.

If you want to find out more about what we do, feel free to contact us or come along to a meeting. We have regular meetings during term time. If you would like further information please do not hesitate to contact the PTA Email: pta@marshall.school.nz
