Welcome to the Marshall Laing School website.
Marshall Laing school is a central Auckland primary school catering for the learning needs of students from age 5 (Year 1) to 11 years (Year 6). The school is situated in the suburb of Lynfield and is off White Swan Road which has easy access to local transit routes.
The school has a roll of 500 students growing to 550 by the end of the year. The school draws from a diverse community who are incredibly supportive of their children’s learning. The parents share the schools high expectations of student learning and behaviour.
The school has excellent facilities with a heated swimming pool, a hall, a large playing field, two all-weather adventure playgrounds and hard court areas. The school is set amongst well established trees and has vegetable plots and fruit trees around the school.
The Marshall Laing team are a conscientious, caring, hard working group of professionals who have high expectations of children and their learning. The teachers are regularly involved in on-going school wide professional development. Marshall Laing offers quality educational programmes that are child centred to meet the learning needs of each student.
Marshall Laing School recognises the importance of a shared partnership between school and home. Marshall Laing has an open door policy and parents are encouraged to participate in any way they can. We offer parents as many opportunities as possible to learn about their child’s learning. Reports are sent home two times a year and these are supported by three way conferences involving the student, parent and teacher. This reporting is in plain language and details where the child is at against the national curriculum levels and national standards.
Marshall Laing School prides itself on innovation and in 2013 we introduced two ‘bring your own device’ ( BYOD) classes at Year 5 and 6. These have been highly successful and subsequently we now have nine BYOD classes at Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 levels. Many parents have commented on the increased motivation and enthusiasm of their child for their learning in these classes as the school seeks different ways of meeting the varied learning styles and needs of our students.
Marshall Laing places emphasis on educating the whole child and thus children are fully involved in interschool sport, choir and cultural festivals and in drama and music productions. Marshall Laing School operates Saturday music classes with lessons offered in a variety of instruments. Over 300 children from our local community learn an instrument on Saturday mornings with the lesson cost subsidised by the Ministry of Education. Marshall Laing is proud of its Saturday music school classes as its gives us a point of difference from other schools and recognises the importance of the arts in a child’s education.
I hope you enjoy looking through our web site and being part of our Marshall Laing community.
