ABOUT THE SCHOOL
Marshall Laing Primary School is a central Auckland primary school catering for the learning needs of students from age five (Year 1) to 11 years (Year 6). The school is situated in the suburb of Mount Roskill and is off White Swan Road which has easy access to local transit routes.
The school has excellent facilities with a heated swimming pool, hall, large playing field, two all-weather adventure playgrounds and hard court areas. The school is set amongst well established trees and has vegetable plots and fruit trees around the school.
Marshall Laing prides itself on innovation and in 2013 we introduce two ‘bring your own device’ (BYOD) classes in Year 5 and 6. These were highly successful and subsequently we opened six BYOD classes across Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 in 2014 and will have nine BYOD classes in 2016. Many parents have commented on the increased motivation and enthusiasm of their child for their learning in these classes as the school seeks different ways of meeting the varied learning styles and needs of our students.
Marshall Laing Primary School places emphasis on the whole child and thus children are fully involved in interschool sport, choir and cultural festivals and in drama and music productions. Marshall Laing operates Saturday music classes with lessons offered in a variety of instruments. Over 300 children from our local community learn an instrument on Saturday mornings with the lesson cost subsidised by the Ministry of Education. Marshall Laing is proud of its Saturday music school classes as it gives us a point of different from other schools and recognises the importance of the arts in a child’s education.
